Sea Kayaking Trips
Humboldt bay wildlife tour- Humboldt Bay in Eureka California
The first documented exploration of Humboldt Bay by kayak was in 1806. Men on an exploratory mission from the sailing vessel O’Cain out of Boston were paddling offshore of what is today Manilla in long three-man, Russian-style kayaks called Baidarkas when they discovered Humboldt Bay. Their logs note that “otters were seen in the greatest plenty”. Frightened by an increasing number of gathering natives, Captain Winship and his crew explored for only two days before making a hasty paddle back to their ship. During our trip we will follow in the footsteps of explorers past. Join us for a guided eco-tour of Humboldt Bay.
We will explore the tidal marshes and bird sanctuaries and paddle past native encampments that are thousands of years old. Our guides are trained naturalists and professional kayakers guaranteeing you a safe, comfortable, and fact-filled tour. This tour leaves right from the shop on Woodley Island and usually runs for 2 hours. All kayaks and necessary equipment are provided.
*Please note, if less than 3 people sign up for a tour, an additional $10 will be charged per person. Cancellations prior to 14 days of the tour will be refunded all moneys paid less a $20 handling fee per person. Cancellations between 3 and 14 days before the tour will forfeit their deposit (50%). Cancellations less than 3 days before the tour will forfeit the full price of the tour.
