Redwood Region Eco-tour Guide Level 1

Learn to lead natural history tours of the North Coast

Ecotourism is a mainstay of the North Coast's economy and likely to become even more important as more-traditional industries wane locally.  Our region boasts virtually all of the publicly-owned old-growth redwoods as well as a bounty of easily-observed wildlife in a diversity of habitats.  This course will teach you the fundamental aspects of leading ecologically-oriented tours in two of these habitats:  redwood forest and wetland.  It will cover the basic elements of the ecology of these habitats including ecosystem processes, identification of common and keystone species, and conservation issues.  Many of these principles will be applicable to other habitats.  Additional topics addressed include appropriate equipment, effective delivery techniques, site selection factors, and safety concerns.
